Formula 1 racer Liam Lawson revealed he came dangerously close to a life-threatening collision during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when two safety personnel crossed the track directly in front of him

The alarming incident happened on the third lap when safety workers were seen on the circuit as Lawson was getting back on the race following an quick visit to the pits to change his damaged front wing

Driver's Immediate Reaction

Immediately after, Racing Bulls driver Lawson communicated to his pit wall engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Could you believe what happened? I might have... taken their lives"

"I truly couldn't comprehend what I was witnessing"

"I rejoined with a fresh hard compound tires, and then I got to Turn One and unexpectedly appeared two guys running across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, frankly, it was extremely hazardous"

Security Issues Highlighted

"Obviously there's been a miscommunication somewhere but I've never encountered that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's absolutely inexcusable"

"We can't understand how on a ongoing race track track officials can be allowed to just sprint across the track in such a way. I'm clueless about the cause, I'm sure we'll get some form of reasoning, but it really can't happen again"

Governing Body Reviewing

F1's overseeing organization, the FIA, is actively examining the situation

"After an occurrence at turn one, race control was informed that wreckage remained on the track at the turning point of that curve" stated the governing body

"On lap three, track officials were alerted and placed on standby to enter the track and remove the wreckage once all cars had passed"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had pitted, the instructions to dispatch marshals were withdrawn and a double yellow flag was raised in that section"

"Our inquiry continues what transpired subsequent to that time"
