Exploring a Bizarre Steam Demo: Playing as a Piece of Feces on a Quest to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have discovered a variety of engaging creations from small studios. But, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled jumping adventure includes a hero that is actually a dung trying to travel to a toilet. As a fun fact, "Unko" means "poop."
How you interact is simple: just use a one button to leap. Across 150 stages, you'll face mini-bosses and unlock a shop to purchase skins for your dung hero.
Time your movements precisely, since one wrong move requires restarting the level. Jump off bubbles to launch your character to new heights, traverse crumbling platforms, and interact with buttons to unlock new areas. Gather currency to purchase tougher stages where things intensifies.
Visually, the experience shows off vibrant level designs and an amazing soundtrack. The simple art of moving abstract forms evokes memories of players of beloved games like Earthbound.
Although tough to think of similar titles where you are a piece of feces, gaming often incorporated fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players create explosives from protagonist droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, such content shows up heavily in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already garnered impressive awards, like winning at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is accessible currently on Steam, with the full game scheduled to debut on Steam in the fall.
