Donald Trump and Japan's Recently Appointed Premier Exchange Praise and Commit to Strengthen ‘Remarkable’ Relationship

During a latest trip to Tokyo, former American leader Donald Trump together with the Japanese new Prime Minister Takaichi shared friendly compliments and vowed to enhance the already strong bilateral relations.

Key Points from the Encounter

Trump praised Takaichi as a ‘great’ figure and congratulated her on becoming Japan's first woman prime minister. During their talks at the capital's official venue, Trump voiced confidence that she would become one of the ‘great prime ministers’ of Japan.

Takaichi, who is a close associate of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, applauded his initiatives to address international disputes and reportedly vowed to put forward him for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Economic and Security Deals

Both nations revealed a list of joint initiatives in sectors such as power, artificial intelligence, and rare earths. Japan-based firms are exploring funding of up to $400 billion in the United States.

Furthermore, Tokyo had previously committed $550 billion in long-term American projects, loans, and assurances as part of an agreement to secure relief from Trump's import duties.

Such actions are viewed as possibly reducing any future demands from Trump for Japan to increase its defense spending. Takaichi responded to this by promising to accelerate proposals to raise military budget to two percent of gross domestic product.
