One 14-year-old youth was discovered deceased only a few days following being falsely blamed of stealing the cremated remains of a deceased infant during a break-in, an inquest has heard.

Tragic Finding

The young boy's parents found his remains in his room at his Flintshire residence on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Accusations Start

The inquest learned how his mother got a message on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a woman inquiring if her son was her child. The message stated: "Inform him thanks for burgling my flat."

In a testimony read to the court, the mother said the woman had been in the news, claiming her baby's ashes had been taken in a burglary - a allegation which was untrue.

Law Enforcement Inquiry

An official inquiry from authorities later concluded the alleged break-in complainant had "lied to police" and "it now appears that said property was not taken in the first place".

News coverage about the alleged stolen ashes attracted social media responses, and although the teenager was not named in the posts, his parent said people "knew it was him".

The "online posts were really distressing", she said.

Emotional Health Impact

She explained that Kai had been identified with moderate attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' opinions genuinely were important to him.

"It would have hurt him deeply," she said, "particularly when this was not true".

The teenager was detained at home, but no evidence was discovered. He was transported to a police station and later released under investigation.

Police said they would be in touch, the inquest heard, but had not reached out to the family by the moment of his death.

Isolation and Worry

His mother said Kai "became isolated" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the authorities", because his ADHD meant sometimes "a minute could seem like much longer".

When she spoke to him about the alleged incident, she said her son informed her he had entered the residence because the woman who lived there had said he could use the toilet anytime he wanted, but refuted taking anything.

Digital Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being harassed online after the accusations.

The inquest heard that one young adult encouraged the teenager to end his life.

She had no concerns on the night before he passed away, describing how she had listened to him "laughing and teasing".

She portrayed him as a "compassionate, affectionate" boy, and said her "family is totally shattered".

He had been "clearly concealing his concerns", she said, noting that he could not stand to have anybody "have negative thoughts of him".

School Response

The inquest heard from school personnel at Connah's Quay secondary school.

On November 8th, she "overheard some students talking that the student had been arrested and that was the initial I learned".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the discussion, the educator said she rang the family's parents' telephone and left a message saying she had communicated to the student about the allegations.

The proceedings learned his parents said they never got that message.

Official Conclusion

Lead coroner informed the hearing he would await reports regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with individuals with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of future fatalities report.

Delivering a narrative finding, he said: "Around November 8th, 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a young individual.

"Probably untruths were afterwards exaggerated and amplified through the medium of social media.

"On November 11th, he was questioned by the police and following his interview he was freed whilst inquiries proceeded."

The coroner determined: "Exists no proof that the acts or omissions of any agency caused or added to his death and although it was the result of a personal action it is not possible to discern his purpose."
